| Catalyst Semiconductor now offers an environment-friendly package option for all products. By combining Pb-free lead finish and halogen-free package molding compound, manufacturers can now qualify and put into production a complete "Green" solution based on Catalyst's serial and parallel EEPROMs, Flash memory and analog/mixed-signal ICs. |

Catalyst also uses European RoHS-compliant and China RoHS-compliant external packaging and shipping materials for its integrated circuit products.

REACH stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorization & Restriction of Chemicals and is a new European Union (EU) regulation as of June 1, 2007. This is the strictest law, to date, regulating chemical substances and will impact industries throughout the world, including the semiconductor industry. The goal of REACH is to improve the protection of human health and the environment, as well as enhance the competitiveness of the EU chemical industry.
Catalyst Semiconductor will comply with the REACH regulations and has already initiated the process with our assembly suppliers.

RoHS is an acronym for "Reduction of Hazardous Substances." The European Parliament Directive 2002/95/C (PDF) has mandated the reduction of certain hazardous substances from most electronic products. Devices that comply with the RoHS directive are often referred to as GREEN. |
|
RoHS-compliant parts are often referred to as GREEN. At Catalyst we only call a part GREEN if it is fully RoHS-compliant.
|
|
We have created a new set of package codes to identify GREEN devices. |
 |
There are strict limits on the content of hazardous substances. |
 |
| The devices with "GREEN" package identifiers are certified by Catalyst to be fully compliant with the European Parliament directive.
|
 |
Catalyst supports two of the most popular Pb-free lead finishes: NiPdAu (nickel-palladium-gold) and matte-tin. Parts with the NiPdAu finish have a "-G" after the part number and are often referred to as GREEN & GOLD. |
 |
Glossary
- Gold
- Devices that have NiPdAu (nickel-palladium-gold) lead finish are referred to by Catalyst as "Gold"
- Green
- Devices that comply with the RoHS directive are considered "Green"
- Matte-tin
- RoHS-compliant lead finish
- NiPdAu
- RoHS-compliant lead finish
- Pb-free
- Free of the metal lead. ("Pb-free" is used in preference to "lead-free" as there is potential confusion associated with using "lead" which could be interpreted as "lead" the element or "lead" the package leg or pin)
